The Minister of Health says government will fulfil its promise of a doctor for every Nova Scotian.
Leo Glavine was pressed by reporters to give a timeline on when people in the province should expect that to happen.
“Two to three years, Nova Scotians who want a primary care provider, that will be available to us. It won’t be just a doctor, it will be that team that will be providing care.”
The team Glavine refers to will be part of the collaborative care centre model that government has been proceeding with throughout their time in office.
He says that model allows doctors to oversee a patient’s treatment with the support of nurse practioners.
And bringing doctors into the province through immigration is a part of that solution.
“The UK is going to potentially play a prominent role in recruitment. They have doctors and nurses lining up because of Brexit and we can recruit heavy.”
He says the collaborative care physician will oversee a patient’s health care and will become the primary care provider for most Nova Scotians.
