An outdoor ball-hockey rink will finally be put to use in Yarmouth.
The rink was purchased after Yarmouth hosted the Play On! National Street Hockey Tournament in 2013.
It was set up at Lobster Rock Wharf for the championship games, but has since been in storage at Mariners Centre.
Now, a suitable location has been found.
Yarmouth Recreation Director Frank Grant says it will be on town property, at Broad Brook Park on Forest Street.
“It’s adjacent to the current parking lot between the two ball diamonds. It’s a well lit area, access to washrooms. We’re hoping that we can put this up and have people use it no different than using a ball diamond. They call our office and book a time for use. I hope that it will be another great resource that our community can use, and it can be great off-season training for our minor hockey players in Yarmouth County.”
Grant says it will cost about $25,000 to create an asphalt pad on the property.
The project is in Yarmouth Recreation’s budget, which the town and municipality have yet to approve.
Grant says the plan is to have the rink in place by early June.
