Businesses, organizations and individuals are being challenged to help clean up a litter-filled section of highway in Yarmouth County on Earth Day later this month.
The challenge is from the Yarmouth Area Community Fund, the Cape Forchu Water Front Group, the Yarmouth Chapter of the Nova Scotia Women’s Institute and the Milton Improvement Society.
Gert Sweeney is a member of the Yarmouth Area Community Fund Adopt A Highway Program.
“We have identified the section of highway that starts between Kent and Walmart along the 101. It’s quite disgraceful when you’re coming to town to see that much litter combined in one area.”
Waste Check is also partnering on the clean up.
Amy Hillyard, waste reduction coordinator, says they’ll provide the necessary gear.
“We have safety vests and signs that say litter pickup in progress. We’ll have those available for people to use. If you want to join us that day, that’s great. If you have another area in mind, you can call us at the office, our number is 902-742-1312.
The cleanup will take place between 9am and 12pm on Earth Day, Saturday April 22.
