Several people were taken to hospital after fire broke out this morning in a multi-unit dwelling on north Main Street.
The call came in around 6am of a structure fire at 661 Main Street.
Yarmouth Fire Department Platoon Chief Lynn Seeley says when they first arrived only smoke was visible from one unit, then shortly after, flames broke through the roof.
Seeley says they evacuated six residents who were transported to hospital to be checked out.
“The RCMP and EHS were on scene. After successfully evacuating the building, we managed to get five cats out to freedom as well. We then extinguished the fire.”
Cpl. John Stoddart of the Yarmouth Town RCMP says the cause appears to be accidental.
Departments from Port Maitland, Wedgeport and Lake Vaughn also responded.
