The government will contribute $2.25 million toward the project, and the new centre will also serve Jordantown and Conway.
The local betterment association will lead the project.
President Kerry Johnson says the funding provides the African Nova Scotian community an opportunity to share its struggles and contributions of the past and to move forward with diversity and inclusion.
The 14,000 plus square foot centre will have space for a pre-school, youth and adult learning, recreation programming and retail.
The association is seeking additional funding for the project.
