After six years without a bus line, Bridgewater, Mahone Bay, Chester, and Lunenburg will all be connected to Halifax once again starting this Monday.
Mike Cassidy, CEO of Maritime Bus, says back in 2012 when his company took over the Acadian Lines, they felt it was too big of a network to handle to include the run.
It was later picked up by a company in Yarmouth but dropped again.
But now Maritime Bus is giving it a shot, using a smaller bus and more frequent run times.
“Customers want frequency and when I say frequency, I mean they want time options to leave the region and come back to the region,” says Cassidy. “You can leave Lunenburg County three times a day, you can come back into Lunenburg County three times a day and we think with the frequency, the convenience, we are going to attract customers.”
He says they also felt the time was right, given Bridgewater’s new bus system.
The company made an application to the Utility and Review Board earlier this year.
Cassidy says there’s room to extend the line further down the South Shore or for other companies to connect to their route.
He believes the route will be good for locals and tourists and they’ve added a stop in front of the QEII Hospital for people who have medical appointments.
An official launch will take place Monday at 10 AM at the Bridgewater Mall.
