A.F. Theriault and Sons in Meteghan River will construct fibreglass hulls for 12 rescue boats.
The 8.5 metre crafts will be used for the navy’s Arctic patrol ships.
Marine Superintendent Stephane LeBlanc says the company is partnering with Rosborough Boats, a sub-contractor of Irving Shipbuilding.
“We build the hulls for them, the hulls would be sent to Halifax and then sent to the Navy. Right now our shop employs around 8 people, that will increase to 12 to 14 by the first of April.”
The project in full is expected to take 1-2 years.
LeBlanc says they’ve worked with Rosborough for close to 40 years, and they always look to deliver a high quality product on time and on budget.
