The MLA for Queens-Shelburne says it’s shameful that Premier Stephen McNeil is sitting behind closed doors discussing the boundaries issue but not communicating with all Nova Scotians.
Sterling Belliveau says he’s worried the Liberals will call an election on the current boundaries.
He says it would taint the election results.
The boundaries were changed by the NDP government in 2012. A government in which Belliveau held cabinet positions.
Belliveau voted against his own government after receiving permission from then-Premier Darrel Dexter to break party ranks.
The province’s Court of Appeal ruled the changes were unconstitutional.
He says now the government is holding closed door meetings with the Federation Acadienne de la Nouvelle-Ecosse .
“What I’m seeing is a government that’s sitting behind closed doors just talking to the Acadian community and to me that’s not the Canada I want to belong to.”
Belliveau says the Liberals should be having an open dialogue with everyone.
He is reaching out to the province’s municipal units to guage interest in a lawsuit against the province.
Belliveau says he quickly realized that it would have been too costly to engage in a lawsuit by himself.
