A federal private members bill on Remembrance Day is closer to becoming law.
West Nova MP Colin Fraser introduced Bill C-311 last year, to help elevate the yearly memorial of Canada’s veterans to a legal holiday under the Federal Holidays Act.
That would give the day the same status as Canada Day and Victoria Day, and give provinces and territories the option to implement it as such.
The bill has passed through the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage, and will now go to the House of Commons for third reading.
Fraser says he has a good feeling about the Bill’s future.
“Overall, it’s been very well received. After third reading in the House, if the vote is positive it would go over to the Senate to go through their process.”
Fraser says he’d be happy if it was passed in time for this November 11th, but it would have to go through the Senate in time.
