With no significant rain in the forecast, rural municipal units have stepped-up their help to residents.
The Municipality of Argyle has conducted online surveys and activated many volunteers and its Public Works Department to help deliver drinking water to those who are unable to pick it up.
CAO Alain Muise says with no end in sight to this dry spell, they are seeking additional resources.
“The need for drinking and non-drinking water is only going to increase. We are reaching out to EMO Nova Scotia and the minister of the Department of Municipal Affairs to aid us in this endeavor.”
Muise says many of those who helped during the drought of 2016 are the same volunteers helping out now and several are volunteer firefighters.
He says while that volunteer base is strong, if this extends longer they will need more resources.
Here is additional information from the Municipality of Argyle:
With still no sign of heavy precipitation in the forecast, EMO Argyle is reminding residents to keep an eye on their neighbors, especially those living alone or most vulnerable, and will be assisting residents with resources and options for those that are significantly affected.
