Nova Scotia’s Opposition leader wants Stephen McNeil’s Liberals to recall the Legislature.
Jamie Baillie of the Progressive Conservatives says an independant electoral boundary review commission needs to be in place before the next election.
About a month and a half ago, the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal deemed the current boundaries ‘unconstitutional’ because of interference from the previous NDP government to eliminate minority ridings.
Baillie says people in places like Clare and Argyle were upset at the boundary changes.
“It would be wrong to run an election on illegal boundaries. This is an issue not just for people who are Acadian or Mi’kmaq or African Nova Scotian, this affects all of us. This is about whether we have a fair election and a fair vote.
The Fédération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse successfully challenged the boundaries in court, and are awaiting government’s next move.
