Digby RCMP are warning residents after a recent phone scam cost a local woman $35,000.
On Monday, police say the woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Scotiabank Fraud Section, asking if she had charged money to her Visa.
When the woman said no, the caller talked her into giving them remote access to her computer and online banking, saying her accounts might be compromised due to a fraud investigation at the bank.
The victim was told RCMP would be putting money into her account.
Later, money was added to her account but she later learned it was from her own line of credit.
The woman was instructed to withdraw money from her bank, and was directed to attend other banks in Digby and deposit money into other specific accounts.
The RCMP remind citizens that they should never provide financial information over the phone.
