A new name will be on the ballot for the NDP in the riding of Queens-Shelburne.
John Davis was nominated as the party’s next candidate after current MLA Sterling Belliveau announced he will retire when the next provincial election is called.
Belliveau and NDP Leader Gary Burrill were both present for Davis’ nomination meeting last night in Shelburne.

Davis says he looks forward to carrying on the orange wave in the riding.
“Sterling has done an excellent job representing Shelburne and Queens. He certainly has put us in a position where I believe we can be successful in this riding.”
This is Davis’ first time in the political circle.
He has spent time as a fisherman and fish plant owner and operator.
Davis says he believed there would be a massive void once Sterling Belliveau retired.
He says Belliveau, who has spent 10 years as MLA, has been an integral voice in defence of the area’s in-shore fishery.
Davis says he didn’t want to see that stop.
“We need that voice in Province House and I’m going to make an effort to continue his work on that issue and many other issues as it relates to the South Shore.”
Davis says Lobster Fishing Areas 33 and 34 have been major contributors to the economic well-being and critically important to the region.
