The Tri-County branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses is receiving cash to purchase a battery operated pump to provide medication to patients.
The 100+ Women Who Care of Shelburne County used their first meeting to award $8,000 to the group.
The VON received more votes than the Shelburne Loyalist Food Bank and the Agape Youth Ministry.
One of the organizers, Penny Smith, says the equipment will help provide medication to treat patients for pain, nausea or other symptoms.
“The pump can also be used to give IV antibiodics which saves the person having to go to outpatients two or three times a day for medication.”
Women participated from across Shelburne County.
Smith says there can only be one recipient at each meeting.
“All three are very deserving charities. They make a huge impact on the lives of our residents and we are grateful for their contributions to our communities.”
The meeting was held at the Shelburne Lions Club and Smith says they also donated $120 to the group for letting them use their space.
The 100+ Women Who Care of Shelburne County will meet again June 7 at the Barrington Lions Club.
