RCMP in Yarmouth County have laid charges, including Attempted Murder With A Firearm, against a 37-year-old man in relation to Tuesday’s shooting in Hebron.
Ian Matthew Huskins is also charged with Discharging a Firearm With Intent, Careless Use of a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public.
He was in court Thursday and was remanded to custody and will returns to court April 9.
Huskins was arrested around 9 a.m. on March 27, transported to the Yarmouth Rural detachment, held in custody overnight and charged the next day.
Corporal Jennifer Clarke tells Acadia News a second person was also arrested and is facing charges of Obstruction and Resisting Arrest
The 41-year-old woman from Hebron was released on conditions by police and is scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on May 13.
We asked Cpl. Clarke what connection she has to the case.
“Unfortunately because of privacy concerns I can’t speak to that question.”
Clarke would not say if a weapon was recovered or what type of firearm was used
“The investigation is ongoing and is actually before the courts now so I can’t really speak about what we’ve located and what we haven’t. The investigation is well in-hand and we’ve dedicated a lot of resources to it.”
She also could not tell us the condition of the victim.
“I don’t know his condition at this time and quite often when people are admitted to hospital, whether they’re involved in a crime or not, it’s very difficult to get updated information from them”
Clarke says around 7:30 Tuesday night, a 34-year-old man was shot by another man.
“Police located a truck believed to have been involved in the incident in a ditch area off Greenville Road in Hebron.
She says the suspect fled the scene and the victim ran to a nearby residence for help.
He was transported to the QE11 hospital.
An RCMP police dog team failed to track the suspect but evidence was located near a home, which helped police locating Huskins inside a home on Main Shore Road.
He surrendered to the Emergency Response Team.
