The Chris Scott Construction Peewee AA Gateways completed their 2018 baseball season with a silver medal at the Tier 1 provincial championships in New Glasgow over the Labour Day weekend.
On Friday the Gateways scored 5 runs in the 6th on their way to a 10-7 win over the host New Glasgow Blizzards. Ben Lyons was named player of the game.
Saturday morning Yarmouth fell 9-6 to the Springhill Fence Busters. Miguel deJesus was awarded player of the game.
Later in the day, the Gateways downed the Hants North Jays 12-2 in 5 innings. Luke MacLeay was player of the game.
The Gateways finished play on Sunday with an 18-3, 4 inning win over the Kentville Wildcats. Rookie Mason Légère scored the final runs of the game and was named player of the game.
Since the host team New Glasgow Blizzards secured their spot in the Atlantic Championship later this month in Fredericton because they went undefeated in round robin play, the Gateways , Jays and Fence Busters were in a 3 way tie for second place with a 2-2 record.
The tie breaker went to the team that had given up the fewest defensive runs per defensive inning played therefore the Gateways finished in second place and were awarded the silver medal.
The Gateways would like to thank their amazing coaches Scott Jeffery , Curtis Falls and Jake MacLeay for a fun filled baseball season.
