The agency responsible for Nova Scotia’s offshore oil and gas is looking to get some public feedback.
The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board is updating its Strategic Environmental Assessment, used for the Middle Scotian Shelf and Slope.
Spokesperson Sadie Toulany, says the assessment must be applied when companies apply to drill offshore.
“A strategic Environmental Assessment really is just that first step at looking at that potential environmental concerns and effects and identifying any mitigation measures that may be required.”
She says an initial review was done in 2017.
“The final review and update is taking place to ensure that the information pertaining to the existing environmental conditions, so that would include any special areas or species at risk or any legislative requirements, remain current and up to date on the area.”
Toulany says it’s important to engage with key stakeholders like Indigenous Nova Scotians and fishermen and get their knowledge as well.
The public has until April 18 to comment on the assessment, which they can do so by emailing: comments@cnsopb.ns.ca

In addition to the assessment announcement, CNSOPB has updated their Call For Bids Forecast Areas Map for 2019 through to 2021.
