It’s Wharf Rat Rally weekend in Digby, as thousands of motorcyclists visit for the long weekend.
One of the main events is the memorial ride from Digby to the Afghanistan Memorial Wall at Maple Grove Education Centre.
The sixth annual ride takes place tomorrow, starting at 11am and arriving at the school at noon for a remembrance service.
Rally organizers invite the people along the route through Clare and the Municipality of Yarmouth to come out on their lawns to support these riders in their tribute to their comrades.
It’s also to honour the organizer of the first ride, MCpl Darren Williams who was tragically killed in 2015.
Joe Paquette of the Canadian Army Veterans Motorcycle Unit says about 100 riders take part.
“From then on, the ride became a tribute to both Darren and the Afghanistan veterans, and to members that are suffering from PTSD.”
Riders will be donating to Maple Grove for the maintenance of the memorial and to Veterans’ Place, which is fundraising for a new van.
