The official sale and transfer of the former Arcadia School will be announced later this week.
The Yarmouth Arts Regional Council purchased the building from the Municipality of Yarmouth, and plan to turn it into a multi-purpose arts centre.
The formal transfer will take place at 2pm Thursday at the building, and the public are invited to attend.
Warden Leland Anthony says this will be a great addition to the municipality and the community of Arcadia.
“It will be a boost to Yarmouth County. They’re moving forward now, it’s their property and they’ll be able to do what they want to do.”
Plans for the school include the addition of two theatres totaling 10,000 square feet, and space for other arts groups.
Anthony says a lot of former schools have been turned over to municipalities across the province.
“Some of those schools had to be taken down. No developers wanted the schools because of location. We’re very fortunate that Arcadia School is still very solid, and in a prime location.”
He says it will increase traffic flow in Arcadia and be a great asset to the municipality.
Anthony says they are pleased to have worked with Th’YARC on this initiative.
Th’YARC will move from their current location on Parade Street in town when renovations are complete.
