An initiative is starting up to bring women together to support local groups in Shelburne County.
The first meeting of the 100+ Women Who Care of Shelburne County will be held Wednesday.
The women pay $400 annually.
One of the organizers, Penny Smith, says they will meet four times a year to nominate local charities or non-profit organizations.
“These charities or organizations will explain what they do and why they deserve the money. The women will then vote for who they feel is the most deserving.”
Smith says they have roughly 75 members, so far, but more are welcome to join.
“All charities and non-profit organizations that positively impact the communities in Shelburne County are eligible and if 100 women participate, $40,000 will go back into the community.”
The meeting begins at 6 p.m Wednesday at the Shelburne Lions Hall.
