Midwives Needed In Yarmouth And Sydney Say Some.
Volunteers are being sought to take part in a study of women’s experiences of maternity care in the Yarmouth area.
The Dalhousie Social Work Midwifery Research Project is based on-line.
Mothers looking for alternative birthing say there’s a lack of such services in Western Nova Scotia.
Krissy Penney is a birth doulah and mother and knows how important it is for expectant women to have an option.
“For mothers like myself that really wanted to have a midwife experience, because they wanted the low intervention, they were low-risk and they wanted a different kind of birth that what’s offered here. Every mother in this area should have the choice to choose whether they have a midwife or an MD.”
Penney says the first time she asked for a midwife at the Yarmouth Hospital the doctor laughed at her.
The project is also being done in Sydney.
