A Nova Scotia paramedic says the shortcomings facing health care in this province are taking a toll.
Bill Muirhead, from Stellarton, has been a paramedic for nearly 39 years.
He tells Acadia News, he’s seen the health care crisis first hand and it frustrates him.
“It’s taking a toll on medics, nurses, physicians, Er’s nurse practitioners, everybody. We have an aging population and geographically we have a big province.
Muirhead says ongoing emergency room closures mean ambulances have to travel farther, leaving some areas temporarily without paramedic service.
He commends the work of the ‘Save our Rural Health Care Group’ saying members from Western Nova Scotia and the South Shore are doing a fantastic job and he hopes word continues to spread across the province.
Muirhead also applauds the efforts of Shelburne Mayor Karen Mattatall.
He also looks forward to a review being conducted by the province.
The Nova Scotia government will do a system-design review of EHS.
Muirhead hopes the review will lead to government taking meaningful action.
