Organizers say despite a bit of heavy rain on one day, the 20th annual Yarmouth Shark Scramble was a huge success.
Bob Gavel says everything went great.
“There was 18 boats that were registered and around 135 participants. I think all but one boat caught fish. Everybody had a great time.”
He jokes…”It was a little damp on Saturday during the start of the weigh-ins. But it cleared off after and the turnout was great.”
Only Blue sharks were permitted to be landed.
Gavel says researchers were at the wharf taking samples.
There was just 1.1 pounds separating the first and second place prize winning fish.
First place went to Chris Cushing aboard the vessel Lurcher Shoal with a 347.2-pound blue shark.
Corey Irons aboard the vessel Sea Fever III took second place with a 346.1-pound blue shark.
Third place went to Ryan Leblanc on the Amanda and Allison with a 308.6-pound blue shark.
David Wiscock of Glace Bay won the grand prize, a 4-Wheeler donated by Leonard C. Comeau and Honda.
Gavel says they’re hoping for another successful Yarmouth Shark Scramble next year.
