MLA’s from across Nova Scotia braved the weather to get to the legislature in Halifax today.
They had no choice.
Last night Premier Stephen McNeil asked the Speaker to recall the House of Assembly.
The government plans to impose a contract on the province’s 9300 teachers after they rejected the last tentative deal
last Thursday.
Despite a plea from PC Leader Jamie Baillie to delay the recall because of the storm, the House will sit at 8pm.
Opposition House Leader Chris d’Entremont says he hasn’t seen the government’s legislation that they plan to bring forward.
“We are anticipating that it will be similar to the one brought in in January. Something similar to the September contract being imposed on teachers.”
d’Entremont says if the Liberals don’t hit any roadblocks, the bill could possibly be passed by the end of the week.
The Liberals have a solid majority holding 34 of the 51 seats in the legislature.
