Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil has asked the speaker of the house to recall the legislature.
In a statement released this afternoon, he promised to table legislation on Monday that will force an end to the work-to-rule job action that began in December.
McNeil says the negotiations between the Teachers Union and the province have reached an impasse.
He says the most recent deal, the third since negotiations began in September of 2015, included a fair wage package and investments to improve classroom conditions.
McNeil adds the ongoing job action by the teachers is harming students and must be brought to an end.
He says he came to the conclusion that legislation is necessary after considerable soul searching.
He goes on to say it’s time for the lives of parents and students to return to normal.
