The 7th Annual Yarmouth Labour Day Event will take place at Frost Park.
It’s on Monday September 3th this year.
Greg Williams of the South West Labour Group says while it’s a fun, family-oriented day, the message is serious, especially when it comes to workers pay.
“Especially with the two zeros we took in 2015 and 2016. It really hits when the cost of living goes up.”
Williams also says they continue to lobby for equal pay for equal work, pregnancy and parental leave, weekends and paid vacations and universal health care for everyone.
He says there are still many misconceptions about unionized workers.
“We’re all struggling to get by in the changing and difficult times we’re having now. We’re working part-time, working two jobs. We have to work after retirement also like everyone else.”
The Labour Day event features speakers, a BBQ, entertainment and games for the kids.
It runs from 11 a.m. and runs until 2.
