Yarmouth town council and Th’YARC will look for common ground on Monday.
A closed door meeting is planned between council and YARC representatives as they discuss future plans for a new arts centre.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood says the two sides agreed to meet after discussions today.
“We’ve agreed that Yarmouth town council and YARC representatives will meet early next week to discuss moving forward. Council will defer the two agenda items regarding Th’YARC from this evening’s agenda until discussions have been conducted.”
The first agenda item was to deny a request from Th’YARC to have access to the Grand Street Extension property, the other was for council to send a letter to Th’YARC making clear the terms under which they support a new arts centre.
Council is pushing to build it downtown, while YARC members have declared their support for construction on the existing property at 76 Parade Street.
YARC President Mitch Bonnar says he looks forward to the meeting.
“We need to bring a number of issues to conclusion including funding and location. We need to get this fixed.”
Bonnar says this is a positive step, as a theatre needs to be built as soon as possible.
