It seems there will be no shortage of tenants.
James Brannen, a local electrician bought the former Cape Sable Island Elementary School from the Municipality of Barrington
a couple of years ago.
The school closed in 2014 after the Tri-County Regional School Board decided to amalgamate Clark’s Harbour and Cape Sable
elementary schools.
Brannen says there is definitely a need.
‘After they accepted my proposal, within a month or two, it was full. There’s already a waiting list.”
Brannen says baby-boomers are in the market.
“They’ve got big houses right now, sometimes three or four bedrooms that they’re not using anymore. It’s a lot of maintenance. Smaller stuff is what they’re looking for.”
He says the economy in the Barrington area is strong right now, driven by the lobster fishery.
Brannen says the 12-unit complex will be an open design concept with each classroom being transformed into an apartment.
