RCMP are offering safety tips for users of off-highway vehicles.
Corporal Dal Hutchinson says they’ve seen first-hand the painful effects of collisions on victims and their families and they don’t want it to happen to anyone else.
They’re offering six tips to stay safe.
Get safety training, stay off roads and highways, always wear a helmet, never drink and drive, ensure your vehicle is registered and insured, and make sure kids are safe.
In Nova Scotia, youth under 16 must ride an appropriately sized vehicle, complete safety training and, for kids under 13, ride on a closed course.
Hutchinson says if a youth is not complying with these rules, the parent or guardian can be held responsible.
Violations of the Off-highways vehicle act could lead to a $400 fine and seizure of the vehicle, even for a first offense.
