A special guest sang the national anthem at the Yarmouth Junior A Mariners game yesterday.
Peter Baylis of Halifax belted out O’ Canada along with some local members of the Girl Guides before the Mariners win over the Lumberjacks.
Baylis is the long-time anthem singer for the Halifax Mooseheads, and to celebrate the country’s 150th birthday, he is trying to perform the anthem 150 times.
Baylis says he’s a proud Canadian and he knew he wanted to do something to mark the occasion.
“I put it on Facebook, and within an hour people were responding to it. It’s been a nice little ride so far, and this game is number 28 for me!”
Baylis talks about what it’s like performing in front of over 10,000 people at Scotiabank Centre.
“I’ve been on stage doing plays and playing with bands, There’s no better feeling in the world when there are a lot of people out there screaming, and getting the audience to sing along. It makes you feel proud to be Canadian.”
Baylis says he’s performed this month at hockey games of many different levels across Nova Scotia.
He says he’s also available to sing the anthem at events and parties.
