A local community is rallying to support its lighthouse.
The week marks the eighth year residents have held an art and craft to support the Medway Head lighthouse.
Organizer Susan Letson says they’ve been working to preserve the structure since the federal government transferred responsibility for the lighthouses in 2014.
“These lighthouses were built around the 1920s, 1930s. They’re out there on the point of land getting all the weather and the storms. You know what that does to the outside of your house.”
Letson says they’re constantly working to improve visitors experience at the lighthouse.
“This year I’m happy to say, we were able to make the inside of the lighthouse water-tight. So that means we can have more events there in the future and help to preserve it for posterity.”
Letson says many local artisans will be donating part of the proceeds from the sale to the upkeep of the Medway Head lighthouse.
The sale is on now until Monday.
