Organizers of a lobster forum next week are hoping for a full house.
The South West Nova Scotia Lobster Forum will be held Wednesday September 21 at the Rodd Grand hotel in Yarmouth from 9-5
It’s been organized by the Maritime Fishermen’s Union, the Scotia Fundy Inshore Fishermen’s Association and the Coldwater Lobster Association.
The issues on the tentative agenda include marine protected areas, offshore development and tidal power.
Presentations on those items will be made by the Environmental Issues Panel.
Bernie Berry of the Coldwater Lobster Association says “I think it’s very important that lobster license holders from LFA’s 33, 34 and 35 attend the forum. This is just a small list of items that could have been touched on but we want to bring awareness of the issues that could affect them this season or next.”
Judith Maxwell of the inshore fishermen’s group says “we’re trying to encourage fishermen to attend so they know where they stand in relation to these issues.”
Graeme Gawn of the MFU says “certainly proponents of many of these are well organized and so should the fishermen.”
