A ‘cool moment’ for a Nova Scotian based medical technology group.
Last week, TV medical drama ‘The Pitt‘ aired an episode featuring ‘Ring Rescue’ of Dartmouth.
It showcased a device that removes stuck rings off of fingers.
Dartmouth’s Dr. Kevin Spencer, along with engineers Patrick Hennessey and Brad McKeil created the ‘Ring Rescue’ back in 2018.
Hennessey says around 2,000 devices have been distributed
“We’re totally deployed across every ER in Nova Scotia. We estimate that we’re in about 25 percent of emergency departments in the U.S. right now, which we’re super proud about,” said Hennessey.
McKeil says it was validating to be featured on the show, which is an accurate representation of the real world.
“It’s super cool. To have the advisors and the people that put that show together recognize that this tool is becoming the standard of care to this problem,” added McKeil.
“We can be on the world stage on one of the most popular shows on television, it was a lot of hard work that a ton of people have put into this.” said Hennessey.
They say their inbox has been filling up since the episode aired.
And, they want to continue to put Nova Scotia on the map and continue to solve meaningful problems in healthcare, and the province is one of the best places to start and grow a company.
McKeil adds their goal is to be standard of care for every healthcare site, and the exposure is helping with that goal.
