Hart : Good Morning !
It’s cough and cold season, that dreaded time of year when the common cold or in my case ” The Man Cold” Hits .
So, what is the common cold ?
Google tells us The common cold is a widespread, usually harmless viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, affecting the nose, throat, sinuses, and larynx. Caused by over 200 different viruses—most commonly rhinoviruses—it causes symptoms like a runny nose, sneezing, cough, and sore throat. It typically lasts for 7 to 10 days.
Recently I have tried some home hacks to lessen the effects of the common cold and coughing , such as boiling ginger root & cinnamon sticks for about 5 mins , simmer it and add some slices of Lemon & Lime. To sweeten it I added some natural honey but you can use brown sugar or maple syrup if you like . ( Strain the mixture and drink it hot/warm)
I found it made me ” feel better” but that’s jut My Personal take on it .
Doctors say one lesser-known remedy may work fast: marshmallow root extract. A store-bought marshmallow won’t fit the bill, unfortunately.
Marshmallow root extract is an herb, which has been used medicinally for centuries. It contains a gel-like substance that coats the throat, easing irritation and calming dry coughs. Studies suggest relief can kick in within about 10 minutes, making it useful before meetings or bedtime. The effect is short-lived, though, and works best for mild symptoms. Experts stress it’s not a cure-all and recommend checking with a doctor before using supplements, especially if your cough lasts longer than 3 weeks or comes with other symptoms.
Here are some other cough-soothing remedies to try:
• Honey
• Pineapple juice
• Warm saltwater gargle
• Licorice root tea
• Warm water with honey or bone broth
