It’s officially ‘WE CARE Radiothon’ week in Yarmouth.
The 10th annual broadcast on Y95 will be live on Thursday from the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
This year’s goal is money for the pharmacy department for a new automated tablet packager.
Mary Surette with the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation says it packages medicine for individual patients.
“Between 2,100 and 2,500 tablets are packaged per day and distributed to our three area hospitals. The number for a year is up to 750,000,” said Surette.
The current machine is nearing its end of life.
Surette says they’re partnering with Nova Scotia Health for the $450,000 machine.
“In the province, there are 42 hospitals, nine are regional. Our taxpayer dollars can’t fund all the equipment needs. That’s why foundations exist, to fill that gap.”
The Radiothon runs from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
