Yarmouth Rural RCMP are investigating after a head-on collision in South Ohio left one person dead.
Police said they responded at approximately 1:45 p.m. Friday to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hardscratch Road near Highway 340. EHS and fire services also responded.
According to a statement, the early investigation indicated a GMC Sierra was travelling north when it collided with a Ford Ranger headed south.
The collision forced the Ford off the road and into the ditch.
Police said the driver of the Ford, an 82-year-old man from Arcadia, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle.
The driver of the GMC, a 43-year-old Yarmouth man, was arrested for impaired driving causing death after officers noticed signs of impairment.
The Yarmouth man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police made a demand for a blood sample and one was obtained.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene of the collision, and the road was closed for several hours.
