It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year for SHYFT Youth Services.
It’s called the ‘Coldest Night of the Year,’ and it’s happening Saturday starting at the Rodd Grand Hotel in Yarmouth.
The SHYFT house is for youth aged 16-24 that experience homelessness and hardships.
Youth outreach worker Shanna Grant says everyone can participate in the walk.
“It is a family friendly fun walk, but that cold makes you think about what some of the young people in our community are experiencing,” said Grant.
Their goal is to raise $20,000, you can choose a five kilometre or two kilometre distance.
Grant says usage of the SHYFT house has risen over the last year.
“It’s disheartening, but that’s what we’re here for. I’m glad we can offer support. We’ve seen many success stories, and I hope we continue to.”
Check-in starts at 4 p.m. and the walk begins at 5 o’clock.
You can register at the event or in advance.
