What is Pink Shirt Day and what started this movement ?
Pink Shirt Day started in 2007 at a High School in Berwick, Nova Scotia. Two students noticed that their fellow student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, and wondered how they could support them. They decided to stand in solidarity with the student and to stand up to the bullies by wearing pink shirts. This simple but effective action grew into a national movement. The campaign has grown into a global movement supported in over 180 countries, promoting compassion and safe environments.
The official theme for 2026 is “Sprinkle Kindness”. This theme highlights how small, everyday gestures—like a smile or a compliment—can significantly impact someone’s life and help build more caring communities
International Day of Pink: Observed on April 8, 2026 (the second Wednesday of April). While similar, this day specifically focuses on standing against 2SLGBTQIA+ bullying and homophobia.
