Yarmouth’s Visitor Information Centre is no more.
It’s part of provincial cuts to tourist bureaus ahead of the budget, being tabled Monday in the Legislature.
The centre was housed inside the Firefighters Museum of Nova Scotia on Main Street.
Yarmouth mayor Pam Mood says it may be an unpopular position, but she’s not devastated by the news.
She says the vast majority of people find things online these days.
“So we will find a way to make sure that happens. It will be in another form, but the visitors will certainly have the information they need,” said Mayor Mood.
She does feel for those who lost their jobs.
“And for those who still want the face-to-face, one-on-one conversations around tourism. But Yarmouth has never lessened the impact on tourism, so we will find a way.”
Other centres that were closed include Peggy’s Cove, Halifax airport and Port Hastings.
