A new program will help the Town of Yarmouth approve housing projects, faster.
The ‘Priority Review Stream for New Housing’ will bring together planning, engineering and building inspectors.
Mayor Pam Mood says it’s great initiative for the town.
“The end game is to get things done and get people in those homes more quickly, so with that timely delivery of new housing, we’re providing a more coordinated review process,” said Mayor Mood.
She says it can help identify issues sooner involving zoning and building codes.
Any residential or mixed-use projects with a housing element could be eligible.
Mood says the goal is to make it easier for developers.
“It’s not the town’s job to build housing, we can only set the table. But we want developers to come in and say ‘I want to build in Yarmouth.’ I think we’re doing a pretty good job of that with new developments going up, it’s great to see.”
New apartments are almost ready on Shaw Avenue, more units are under construction on Water Street.
Mood says they could always use more housing, but they’re in a much better position than a couple years ago.
