A new ultrasound unit is well within reach in Shelburne.
The Roseway Hospital Charitable Foundation says the community has raised $300,000.
The latest donation was $30,000 from the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, they’re now just $50,000 away from their goal.
Norman Wallet is the Roseway foundation chair, and says the unit for diagnostic services is important to the community.
“It detects issues with organs like the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas. It provides a lot of imaging that the hospital doesn’t have right now,” said Wallet.
The foundation has held several fundraising events, and received donations from businesses and citizens.
Wallet says everyone has come together to make sure this piece of equipment is available.
“We’re hoping this leads to more doctors at the hospital, they’ll want to come here because we’ll have more equipment. It will also stop travel for those who need this machine. We’re over an hour away from other regional hospitals.”
He says the unit is already at the hospital, and renovations will take place over the next few months.
