The coach of the Yarmouth Mariners says he’s sick and tired of losing hockey games.
The team lost 4-3 to Amherst Friday on the road and 8-4 to the Crushers Saturday at home.
The Mariners have dropped six of their last seven, and are now 12 points out of a playoff spot with 13 games to go.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says they’re finding ways to lose.
“This is a very proud hockey club, but we haven’t done enough to win hockey games. Mostly, we’re not defending well enough,” said a defeated Barron after Saturday’s loss.
He says it was a disappointing weekend, as they lost an opportunity to chase down the Ramblers and Crushers for a playoff spot.
“You can’t give up six or seven goals a night and win hockey games. Soft plays at the net-front, letting in goals off the rush, and that’s on me. We had a chance to be six to eight points away from a spot, and now we’re sitting 12. Honestly I’m sick to my stomach and I don’t have a lot of words.”
The Mariners did show some fight in both weekend games, trailing in the third period each night.
Down 4-1 in Amherst, Yarmouth scored twice early in the third to cut it to 4-3, but that’s as close as they would get.
The Mariners scored three in the third Saturday, but the Crushers put up five third period goals to run away with it.
Yarmouth will hit the road to Truro and Summerside this weekend, they’re back at home on February 6 against Amherst.
