A local organization says the Halifax casino moving to Dartmouth is a “significant opportunity” for new development in the heart of downtown.
After 25 years of being a staple on the waterfront, a new Casino Nova Scotia will be built in Dartmouth Crossing, right next to IKEA – to be owned by casino operator Great Canadian Entertainment.
Discover Halifax says the decision from the province to proceed with a new facility reflects “strong confidence in the direction of our economy.”
“Investments of this scale are only made when there is a clear belief in long-term growth and stability,” says the organization.
It also signals confidence in how strong our tourism sector is, according to Discover Halifax, knowing that people want to visit HRM.
“We’re encouraged to see additional tourism and entertainment offerings emerging in Dartmouth as it continues to strengthen its position as s destination for shopping and experiences,” says the organization.
The current building will be going up for the sale in the coming weeks; however, it is still unclear of what will be going there.
It will also continue to be operational until the new casino is ready, which is expected to be in 2029.
The Sydney casino will remain where it is.
