Hart : Good Morning !
It’s a Monday. In January. Everyone needs a little cheering up sometimes, and today is as good a day as any. Here are some sure-fire methods for lifting the darkness, and getting that dopamine hit that’ll bring you back to “normal”, whatever “normal” means for you…
❑ Walking
“A long walk with my favorite podcast or Music always resets my mood.”
❑ Venting
“Mainly complaining to my pets until they judge me with silence.” (My pets know my trauma and still haven’t offered to pay rent…)
❑ The three M’s
“Music, movement, and nature. My perfect trio.” (Also: Merlot!)
❑ YouTube fails
“Watching fail videos on YouTube. It reminds me everyone has clumsy moments.” (And that some people are having an even worse day than me!)
❑ Comforts of home
“A hot shower, comfy pajamas, and a good book.”
❑ Friends
“Spend time with my favorite people” (Therapy, but louder and with drinks!)
❑ Get cozy
“Curl up in doggy bed under the desk. Blast one song on repeat.”
❑ Get pumped
“Gym session. Always.” (I’ve heard that a good workout gives you a rush of endorphins…but I get a rush of endorphins by avoiding a workout!)
❑ Watch a good movie
“Watching a good movie while munching on my favourite snacks. Ice-cream definitely helps too!”
❑ Inspirational tunes
“I put on music that reminds me life is bigger than this moment.” (Then I act out a music montage. What? Just me?)
❑ Journaling
“Gratitude journaling. Forcing myself to list 3 good things changes my perspective.” (Because nothing says “make me happy” quite like self-assigned homework!)
❑ Feed your pets
❑ Animal videos
“I watch videos of animals being absolutely funny. Such as a dog arguing with its own reflection.” (Or a chicken eating a peanut?)
Spend time with your partner
“Grumble at my partner about it until She says/does something stupid and cheers me up without meaning to.” (I had no idea that my stupid doings had the power to make someone else’s day better!)
❑ Relaxing
“Comfort food, re-watching a sitcom, or re-reading a favourite poem, and stepping out (even if it’s just onto the balcony) to get some fresh air.” (“The Office”…here I come again…for the 47th time!)
❑ James Brown
“I get up…I get on up, put on Sex Machine – James Brown, crank the stereo loud (for medicinal purposes, of course), and dance for 5:15 runtime. Emotions are held in our bodies and man, do I feel…everything.” (Just imagine the impact his music would have if we could understand the words…!)
❑ Alone time
“Stay alone and have a nice sleep”
