The Mariners Centre expansion project is on schedule.
The roof of the new Credit Union RecPlex is done, concrete is in for the pool, and the $42 million building is on track to open this fall.
Construction started in the fall of 2024, it will feature a six-lane pool, leisure pool, fitness centre, walking track and activity rooms.
Project manager Marc Brophy says a lot has gone into the build.
“We have carpenters, steel workers, plumbers, electricians, and they come and go. You can have anywhere from 20-50 people working here at one time, depending on the phase of the project,” said Brophy.

Brophy says some of the big work remaining includes the mechanical and electrical room.
He talked about some of the things you’ll see happening next.
“The glass will start to fill in the openings, and the siding will start in the next couple of weeks. We had to get the building water tight first. That’s what the public is going to see. Inside, drywall will start, along with the washrooms and changing rooms.”
The leisure pool will feature two slides, a hot-tub and steps for swimming lessons, along with basketball and volleyball nets.
Brophy says a new parking lot will also be constructed this summer.
The project has seen about $10 million in fundraising from the community, along with money from all three levels of government.
The Town of Yarmouth, Municipality of Yarmouth and Municipality of Argyle own the Mariners Centre property.
