Ten high school hockey teams are ready to face off at Mariners Centre.
The annual Timber Cup tournament is on Friday to Sunday, co-hosted by the Yarmouth High Vikings and Par-en-Bas Sharks.
The Sharks take on Clare in their first game Friday morning at 10, in front of the whole school.
Coach Julien Boudreau says it’s always special.
“It’s awesome, that atmosphere having all of those fans and your classmates that may not always come to games, we always enjoy it,” said Boudreau.
Yarmouth will bring their school to their opening contest against Forest Heights Friday at 11:30.
Head Coach Adam Aldred says they’ve had it circled on their calendar.
“This tournament has grown over the years, we’re bringing in teams all the way from the Valley, the city and Cape Breton. We have a great mix of talent around the province, “said Aldred.
Yarmouth and PEB are teaming up once again to host it, both coaches say the volunteers and parents help the event run smoothly.
The Sharks last won the Timber Cup in 2022, Yarmouth hasn’t won since 2011.
The Sydney Academy Wildcats are the defending champions, and will return to the tournament.
They’re joined by Ecole NDA/Cape Breton Highlands/Cabot, Bayview, Auburn Drive, Eastern Shore, Forest Heights, Clare and West Kings.
The semifinals and championship go Sunday.
