Some of the best Yarmouth Mariners of all-time showed, they still got it.
Over 40 players from the last 23 years played in the Mariners Alumni Classic Tuesday night at Mariners Centre in front of 850 fans.
It was Team Gold defeating Team Blue 6-1, led by goaltender Charles Grant who was perfect in two periods played.
The 2012 playoff MVP says it was amazing to be back in Yarmouth.
“Just went out there and wanted to have fun, it was great to see the crowd. The pace of play was a lot harder than I was expecting, when you have guys out of competitive hockey for years you don’t know what to expect. It was so cool to soak it in,” said Grant, who is now the Halifax Mooseheads goaltending coach.
NHL legend Duane Sutter also potted a goal for the Gold team, who had mostly players from the 2010s and 20s.

NHL legend Brian Skrudland played on Team Blue, who featured many from the 2000s teams.
One of the original Mariners, local player Tim Clayton, scored Blue’s lone-goal on the breakaway and got the biggest cheer of the night.
“If everyone remembers right, I didn’t score too many goals in my career. I was all alone with the puck on my stick, (after a nice pass from Jarrett Bottomley,) and I said to myself: ‘don’t fan on it.’ It went top shelf, it was fitting.” said Clayton.
The Mariners are hosting the MHL All-Star Game Wednesday night.
Skrudland and Sutter will serve as guest coaches for Team Eastlink South and Eastlink North, respectively.
