It will be a true ‘throwback’ at the Fishtank.
The Yarmouth Mariners are bringing over 40 players from the past to their first ever ‘alumni game’ Tuesday night.
Matt Barron, current assistant coach and the team’s all-time point leader talks about who he’s looking forward to lacing up with.
“For me, the little kid comes back and thinks about skating with guys from the 2000’s, like Steve Yetman and those players, but I’m just excited to see everyone and what they’re up to now,” said Barron, who played U-Sports and for the Leeds Knights overseas after playing five years with his hometown Mariners.
Barron scored 262 points over that time, winning playoff MVP in 2019 when Yarmouth won their second league championship.
Always humble, he was asked who the greatest Mariner of all-time is.
“It’s a tough one, because some guys made an impact here in just one season, others were dominant over a three-four year stretch. For me, I always liked Colin Campbell’s game, so I’d have to say him.”
Both Campbell and Yetman will be playing.
Tickets for the alumni game and Wednesday’s MHL All-Star contest are on sale at the Mariners Centre box office.
