A former bouncer at the Halifax Alehouse has been found guilty of manslaughter after a patron died outside the bar close to three years ago, according to the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service.
Forty-year-old Alexander Levy has also been found guilty of criminal negligence causing death.
It was December 24, 2022, when 31-year-old Ryan Michael Sawyer was found unresponsive on the sidewalk on the corner of Prince and Brunswick Streets.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Reports have said, according to an eyewitness, Sawyer had been put into a chokehold by one of the bouncers.
Levy later turned himself in; his sentencing date is April 24, 2026.
The Alehouse closed in 2024.
