When you get bored during the day, how do you cure it? I have been trying to get out of the habit of “doomscrolling” any time I get bored. Doomscrolling when you get sucked into social media of any kind on your phone, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok etc. and just wind up scrolling further and further down, nearly endlessly.
It can happen to anyone of any age bus most commonly happens to younger generations such as Millennials, gen Z, Alfa, and so on. It doesn’t take much, a Meme, an interesting life update from a friend, or just one video that made you laugh and next thing you know, you’re doomscrolling for hours!
I asked listeners yesterday how they get rid of their boredom, and the results were pleasantly awakening!
Many replies mention going for a walk of sorts. Some mentioned the beach, or just a walk in general.
Going for a walk anywhere is a great way to explore the area you live in, whether you’ve lived there for a month, or your whole life. Absorbing the sights and sounds of everyday life outside of your home will surely cure that boredom!
One of my old bosses taught me this one, if you’re bored at work, find work to do. Rearrange your desk, clean and rearrange the shelves if you’re in retail, chances are there is something you could do to occupy your mind and look good in front of the boss!
Getting a hobby is probably the best way to cure boredom. Whether it’s knitting, leatherworking, flight simulation, or sports, A hobby is a fantastic way to not just cure boredom, but keep your brain engaged and learning as you go!
Most hobbies may have some sort of cost associated with starting them. Knitting needles and fabric for knitting, a metal detector if you go treasure hunting at the beach, or in my case, Joysticks and other peripherals for flight simulation.
The cost to enter a hobby may deter you from starting it at first, but that is why “entry level” equipment exists. You don’t need the latest and greatest in knitting technology to sit down and make a scarf, in the same way that $50 metal detector is a great way to get started at your local beach before you invest in one with an extra 0 attached…. Or two. It’s also a good idea to start with the entry level gear before you invest too much money into a hobby and decide you don’t actually like it.
How do you cure your boredom? Hobbies, walks, keeping busy or something completely different?
